Located amidst the tranquil of Rochester Park, 1 Caramel which is opened by the 1 Rochester Group is a place not to be missed if you are an avid brunch or dessert lover. Surrounded in the lush greeneries, there is an option for al-fresco dining, but since it was a hot Monday afternoon, I figured out that the cosy, air-conditioned indoors was a better choice for us. But again, I bet that outdoors are perfect for a weekend buddies night-out, or perhaps, savouring a meal with the accompany of live music.
Okay, we didn't do our research prior to the meal and was fairly disappointed that brunch was not on the menu. Nevertheless, we ordered 2 two-course meals (S$22) which consists of an appeitiser and a main dish. Please note that the set lunch is only available on Mondays to Fridays (11.30am - 2.30pm) and that brunch is served on weekends only.
I love their rendition of Tiger Prawn Salad (left), which is served with baby romaine lettuce, pomegranate and Persian feta. It was refreshing and the pairing with crunchy pomegranate seeds was something new for me. On the other hand, Seafood and Tomato Chowder (right) was rather bland for my liking, although it packs quite a generous portion of ingredients.
The tantalising Crispy Skin Kurobuta Pork Ribs was very much satisfactory, if not, amazing with the companionship of apple puree, mashed potato, tempura vegetables served with pork jus. The tender and juicy pork meat has just the right meat and fats ratio. And of course, for my dear heart sake, I only took a bite of the fatty parts.
Girlfriend had their signature Half Roasted Baby Chicken, which was marinated with orange, spices, herbs, rosemary and chicken jus. This dish was very flavourful with the different taste incorporated into every single bite. It comes complete with a side garden salad as well.
One does not simply goes to a dessert boutique without ordering a dessert. To end off the lunch with a high note, we added on their signature Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Mousse Cake, and it is not called "signature" for nothing. The dense and luscious cake was lined with crunchy hazelnut praline, and completed with a smooth and velvety chocolate finish. If there's only one cake to get, well.. This is it.
Besides set lunches and desserts, I would really love to try out their brunch menu. Hence, a second visit is definitely expected.
