Wassup bruh. Recently we visited Tonkatsu - a new venture from Ma Maison, which specialises in Japanese pork cutlet (duh). As we were ushered to our seats, the staff, like most authentic Japanese restaurants, echoed our arrival. The interior, which feature both outdoor and indoor seating, was beautifully decorated with wooden furniture and Japanese paintings. Simplicity at its best.
The man gotta have his meat, thence thou ordered Rosu Katsu Set (S$21.80 for 150g). Hack the Shakespeare-ish English, this shit is da bomb. Unlike places that so-called hail from their motherland and delivers authentic pork cutlet, yet in a disgraceful manner - overly fried, oily, dry, and tasteless, Ma Maison's rendition was brilliant.
Oh did I mention that the rice (choice of white or brown), miso soup (packed with sliced mushroom, pork, and daikon), salad, and roasted barley tea IS REFILLABLE? Bold, capitalised, and underlined for the benefit of Singaporeans. Wah biang, this is a steal man, you better bring some containers to tapau back (takeaway). Just kidding. OI, you better don't say I teach you one ah.
Their pork cutlet tastes good by itself, but dipping it into one of the complementary sauces bring it to another level. You can even add some grounded sesame seeds into the sauce to bring it yet to another level. So many levels hor?
If you're unsure of where to pour what, their saucepans are thoughtfully labelled with Chinese characters indicating the different sauces. If you don't read Chinese, just agar-agar anyhow bomb la.
All in all, definitely recommended for anyone who would love to get their tonkatsu craving fixed.
